Foster A Dream

Foster A Dream is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building the hopes, dreams and futures of Bay Area foster youth. We plant seeds of promise in children who are underrepresented. Children who are thrust as innocents, into a system which in its present condition simply cannot develop them, but rather merely sustains them until they are released as young adults into a world for which they are not prepared. Through the generous support of individuals and businesses, we are able to provide the “important extras” that every child deserves; things that promote social well-being and opportunity for success.

There are over 500,000 children in the United States who have been placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect…1 out of every 5 lives in California alone! Sadly, most of these children are removed from their homes with only the clothes on their back; they experience tremendous loss, their dreams are shattered and they’re left searching for a sense of belonging. Some may only spend a couple of months in foster care; others will spend a lifetime being bounced around from one stranger’s home to the next. Why is it that children who have had their world turned upside down, through no fault of their own, face outcomes such as these? 46% of foster youth fail to complete high school 70% dream of going to college – only 3% actually make it 65% of California’s foster youth face imminent homelessness 51% of former foster youth are unemployed at age 22
Foster A Dream is an efficient and cost effective way for a supporter to contribute to a charity with results that directly serve the child, but also assist the community. That is, any assistance we provide in rendering a child as a contributing member of society, we all reap the benefits. We don’t simply “throw money” at the problem; we invest in helping foster children become productive members of our world - those who contribute to society, not take from it. We help the foster youth in our program identify their dreams and see that they go from fantasy to reality.
